If you wanted to argue in favor of the "loud Noise" theory you could site the history and market reach of Harley Davidson as an example of a loud motorcylce that sells. Harley fan's are very fond of their hogs even to the point of tattooing the Harley logo onto their bodies. Also, because we tend to associate the power and speed of a motorcylce with it's roaring engine, you could argue that the manufacturers who make similar products aren't selling because their bikes don't agree with the emotional "image" that motorcyle enthusiasts have of their machines.
