A screwdriver and mallet currently have the same price. If the price of the screwdriver is raised by 5 percent and that of the mallet rises by 3 percent, then how much more in percent will it cost to buy 3 screwdrivers and 3 mallets?
(A) 2
(B) 4
(C) 5
(D) 7
(E) 8

Suppose that the unit price of each is x, so that 3 of each now cost 6x.

The increased unit prices are 1.05x and 1.03x, so 3 of each will cost 6.24x

6.24x is what percent greater than 6x ?

100% multiplied by (6.24x - 6x)/6x = 4%

You can, for simplicity, assume that the unit price of each is 1.

well i think its 4
i tried to solve it in brain with out use of paper
wow i was able to do it with in 2 minutes....thank god

i took both 10 ,10
new one 15 and 13
old one 10x3+10X3=60
new one 15x3+13X3=84
so 24/60 x 100 (6 is 10% of 60)
