Care for vs. Care about.

What are the differences between the idioms "I care for" and "I care about?"
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

I think-

I care for stands when addressing person or something
Ex: I care for his well-being

I care about stands when addressing some cause or organization
Ex: I care about cancer research
