waive the right to see recommendation?

by workonnet1 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 11:07 am
How do I know what recommender is saying about me.. I can not ask my recommender to show me a copy of my recommendation. What do I do?

If your LOR will not show you what he/she wrote, then there is not much you can do

Though there is the option to not waive the right to see what the recommenders wrote, I'd strongly advise against it (I've never heard of anyone making use of this option). Such a recommendation won't be taken seriously and will reflect negatively on you.

That's why it's very important to pick your recommenders wisely. Choose someone who knows you well and who actually likes you. Then provide the recommender with some examples / highlights / accomplishments in your work experience to assist him/her to write a strong letter. That's the only way you can influence a bit what will be written about you.

If your recommender likes you and you did a good job at work then you'll have nothing to worry about.

Well, its not that they will not show me the reco - I just dont know how to ask.. I mean how can I ask without implying mistrust. If there were a paper reco option then I'd take a reco for a b-school and not apply there.
Please help!
