Urgent Advice required

by seekmba » Wed Sep 26, 2007 10:01 am
Hi Amy/Stacy

I’m a Software Solutions Designer in the Telecom domain based in India, I have around 4 yrs of Work experience in top Indian Telecom/Telecom Services companies.

My MBA aspiration is more of a need driven, I have an Uncle who is the Worldwide CEO of a top Fortune 500 company (within top 100), recently his company has forayed into a new sector, and has world wide expansion plans in the same, he has identified me to take charge as the CEO of the new company in one of the countries after completing an MBA. He also suggested that I can do my MBA from any good institution in India or Abroad, and not necessarily from a top 10 or 20 institution.

However I strongly feel that in order to lead a top level company I would require strong Management skills which I can possibly attain only if I do my MBA from a good Institution.

I have listed the following Schools:
1) INSEAD
2) LBS
3) NYU- Stern
4) IMD Switzerland
5) Chicago GSB
6) CIEBS
7) Cambridge: Judge School
8) Oxford Said
9) Kellogg
10) Tuck

I earnestly request you help me in this regard & kindly indicate whether my reason for pursuing an MBA would provide any leverage to my application in the above B-Schools given my profile as under or I should revise my list above.

Academics: I have B.E (BS) Degree in Information Technology from Mumbai University India in the First Class Standing, I was among the top 10 in my college.

Professional Experience: I have some very good work experience, joined Reliance Communications(among top 3 Telecom Companies in India) as fresher and got promoted in 1 year itself(considering there were only 4 levels in the organization at that time), Currently working with a British Telecom JV company in India, I’m the youngest Software Solution Designer selected with 3 yrs 3 months of experience, all the others have at least 5 yrs + , I have very good knowledge of both Telecom & IT domain, infact my work involves converting Telecom Domain requirements to a Software Design across a complex end to end system integration. I have a total of 4 yrs of Work experience, & have led teams of 8-10 people.

Extracurricular & Community Work: I have done some good community work and have many certificates & letters from various governments depts, as far as extracurricular’s are concerned, I have organized several sporting & culturing events in my college & I’m also an active member of a pan India club where I continue to oraganise such activities.

Recos: Well all my superiors would gladly give me one, Here I would also get a reco from my Uncle with the details that I’ve mentioned above after all he is the one to instigate me for an MBA.

GMAT: I’m sincerely working on it & I hope to Cross the 700 mark, my target is 750+

Eagerly waiting for your reply & suggestions.

Thanks

SM

Hi seekmba,

I think that you have a very solid reason to pursue an MBA, and in that sense being groomed for CEO is helpful. While I'm sure anyone would be impressed by the opportunity, you'll still need to make the case for your admission and your past experiences, academics and essays will all work holistically to accomplish that task.

Good luck!
