I'm wondering if I should take the GMAT once or twice. My preference
would be twice, but the only problem is the cost ($250 each test).
I'm currently going to school full-time while studying for the test, so I would like to take the GMAT over the holiday vacation, but if I do not do as well as expected I will not have another opportunity to take the test before my application deadline on 1/10.
On the other hand, I could take the test Dec 1 just to see if that
score is good enough, (and still have time for a 2nd if necessary) but I'm almost sure that I won't have enough time to study to get my best score that early. This would mean wasting $250. Or perhaps investing in a $150 test run.
Any advice?
Should I take the GMAT once or twice?

I generally recommend that you plan to take it twice. It is a lot of money, but in the context of all you will invest (time and money) in business school, I find that it is worthwhile to do this right. Most people benefit from taking it twice. Of course you could just wait until you really feel ready, and take it once, but that puts a lot of pressure on your one and only attempt.
