UNC interview invitation : help needed

by Pdgmat2010 » Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:43 pm
Hello,
I uploaded the following details on my online application for UNC
1. GMAT scores
2. Personal history, employment history
3. Resume

I got an invitation to interview today from UNC.
I have not yet uploaded my essays.
Do you think its advisable for me to schedule an interview now or should i wait for the Dec 3 R2 deadline when my essays will also be available online to schedule an interview?

Should i ask my recommenders to submit their recommendations before i schedule an interview?
Am really confused about what that e-mail means and will it affect my chances if i choose to schedule an interview early.

Regards,
Pranjali

Dear Pranjali,

Congratulations on your invitation and I hope by this time you have scheduled your interview. If you received an invitation, then you need to accept it immediately. Most business schools only have the interviewer review your resume prior to the interview, so those other items do not necessarily need to be submitted prior to your interview date. For many schools, UNC included, they will make a determination on whether or not to interview an applicant based on the detail you already submitted: resume, GMAT, GPA, and personal/employment history. However, your actual admissions decision will be based on an evaluation of those items plus your essays, recommendations and interview.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks so much for your reply Lisa.
I immediately picked a date for a telephonic interview on their website.
But now i also have the option of an alumni interview ( which I prefer) as it is very difficult to make a good impression over the phone :)
Meanwhile, am working on the rest of my application i.e. essays, recos etc.

If I may, Is there any specific pointer that I should keep in mind for UNC's interview?

Also, should I wear a suit?

Pranjali

Yes, you need to be in professional dress unless you are instructed differently. Business school interviews are like job interviews--they are professional in nature and will cover much of your career to date. I agree that an alumni interview is preferable and hope you are able to secure one. My main advice is to be ready to answer all questions around your career to date, why an MBA, why now, why UNC, and your career goals.

Good luck!
