The Nobel Prize in chemistry

by GMAT Hacker » Thu Aug 26, 2010 6:47 am
The Nobel Prize in chemistry was awarded to three scientists for their discovery
that plastic can be made electrically conductive-an advance that has led to
improvements in film, television screens, and windows.

(A) that plastic can be made electrically conductive-an advance that has led

(B) that plastic can be made electrically conductive-this advance leading

(C) that plastic can be made to be electrically conductive, and this advance led

(D) of plastic's ability to be made electrically conductive, with this advance leading

(E) of plastic being able to be made electrically conductive-an advance that has led

IMO all the options look nonsensical. Please quote the source of this Question.
"an advance" shall be "an achievement".IMO : A
Although I am not very sure about this answer choice. In Order to maintain parallelism the trailing part of the sentence shall use simple past,"an advancement that led".We need the help of some other enlightened soul :)

We can easily eliminate C,D and E. IMO B is wrong because it uses 'lending' at the end.

What GMAT ask us to do is choose the best option available. Here A is the best choice among 5 choices.

QA A

Confused between A and D.
IMO D because I would prefer 'discovery of' rather than 'discovery that'. but not sure about the present continous tense leading at the end.

Experts guidance please!
