by ritz » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:55 pm
huh...
finally I have mustered up the courage to take the date for the exam.
the big day is Sat Apr 19th. I do hope i would be able to achieve what i set out for.
Will keep posting my preparation & progress. It will get all serious now. the goal post is in sight, the ball is right under my feet. I need to do all the driblling & then a backham kick should do it...

Mar 24 Status update & lessons learnt

by ritz » Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:54 pm
I had started with Started with OG11 diagnostic test last week. (I had written the GMAT PREP1 CAT 15 days back & score 720)
here are the stats for OG11 diagnostic test..
PS - 20 correct 4 wrong.
DS - 19 correct 5 wrong
RC - 14 correct 3 wrong
CR - 13 correct 4 wrong
SC - 16 correct 2 wrong
=============================
Was very happy with my over all performance but i am very well aware that the difficulty level will increase in the actual GMAT when i correct these many quetions. So I went thru some basic stuff once more, which involved..
Permutation combination & probability (a little brush up as i dont want to waste too much time on that)
Co-ordinate geometry
mixtures, time speed & distance, functions, inequalities & a little bit of geometry.
Then revised Eric's SC flashcards (they are good), revised my own notes (please make your own notes. it is very very very imp)
did a bit of practice for RC & CR from Princeton GMAT Verbal workout(wont recommend it. Plain & simple, its absurd. You might realise that it can change the direction of your thinking, which might prove to be really detrimental for you score. try to get into GMAT thinking mode rather than going away from it, & princeton did exactly that to me.)
Then I decided that i will do the whole of OG11, then the Kaplan Master the GMAT & then OG verbal & quant review & then the actual GMAT.
In the mean time i will also write as many CAT as possible.
=====================================
So here is my OG11 status for today..
PS - did 30 question in 30 minutes. All correct.
Had to make an educated guess on 1. OG11 PS nbr 20. can any one explain this question to me?
DS - did 30 questions in 16 minutes. All correct.

As expected, the initial question for PS on OG11 were piece of cake. I expect them to get harder as i proceed.
Will also take the Verbal section 30 questions each before tonight & post the status. I dont expect to have a hit rate of more than 85% in verbal. (was about to write THERE, but then realized, THERE will not have any atecedent to it & hence the sentence would not be correct. so changed that to IN VERBAL. Thats what we need to do, bring correct grammatical usage in our day to day life, to succeed in GMAT SC)

Cheers...
Ritz

PowerPrep 1 - 740

by ritz » Sun Mar 30, 2008 2:25 pm
Last time i appeared in a full CAT was about 2 weeks back & i scored 47 in quant & 40 in verbal (720 - total)
Yesterday I wrote second CAT of my preparation. It was PowerPrep1 & i scored a 740 in that
51 in Quant & 39 in verbal.
Quant out of 28 questions counted, 27 were correct. (overall i did not see)
9 correct & 5 wrong in RC
9 correct & 3 wrong in CR
12 correct & 3 wrong in RC

In verbal, i made overall 11 errors & out of 30 questions counted, 9 were wrong. (huh...)
I had thought, after reading thru all the material, my verbal will indeed improve but that does not seem to be the case.
One day i screw up CR, one day it is RC & another day it is SC...
I think my score is sort of stagnated, my preparation is almost done & it depends on the day i appear for the test.
Is there any way to improve my verbal. I have no problem of time in math but verbal does give me a scare. in the sense, for the last 10 questions, I am left with about 15-18 minutes & then for the last 5, its about 5-6 minutes. So the last few questions I do not spend much time on.
Any suggestions to improve my verbal or do you think i have reached a stage where i cant improve much in verbal????
If that is the case, should i prepone my date of april 19th to april 12th, because i am getting a little flustered now.
Also, i am a late riser & the apr 19 test is at 8 am but i have a 12:15 slot available on 12th.
suggestions on this also please...?

Thanks
Ritz
