The best practice CATs are first two free and the second two paid CATs on the GMAT Prep software that you can download from MBA.com after you have created an account.

After that, one option is the predecessor to GMAT Prep, called PowerPrep, which can be downloaded from here. https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/resources There are a few issues with PowerPrep though. It does not include an IR section, the SC questions are somewhat out of date, and there is crossover between PowerPrep and the questions in the Official Guides. So if you have used the Official Guides much, if you use PowerPrep many of the questions will not be new to you.

After that come the tests made by Veritas and Manhattan Prep. There is some debate as to which of these are better. I personally prefer some things about the Veritas tests, and for many, but not all, people the Veritas tests seem to generate the most accurate scores after GMAT Prep. The Manhattan Prep tests are known for generating scores slightly lower than those generated by the actual GMAT. Fortunately both Veritas and Manhattan Prep offer a first test free. So you can see for yourself which you like better. Also, at the moment, if you take a GMAT Prep test and send the score to Veritas, they may give you a set of seven tests for free as they are seeking score data to use for tweaking their tests to maximize accuracy of scores generated.

Hi achilles,

Based on what you've stated in your post, I have a few questions about your studies so far:

1) Have you taken any CATs so far? If so, then what were your scores?
2) How long have you been studying?
3) What resources have you been using?

4) Are you planning to take the GMAT in 4 weeks (or so)?
5) What is your goal score?

Hey

1. I have taken only 1 CAT, been doing practice problems in books
2. Scores are all around 640 .. trying to get low 700s.
3. Been studying for around 2 months, would be doing better but I make careless errors when ready the questions , usually 1-2 per quant/verbal per session, which I am trying to fix.

Resources - GMAT books, Manhattan prep books and Veritas courses.

4. Around 4-6 weeks
5. Target 710-720

Hi achilles,

Since you have MGMAT books and Veritas "courses", do you have access to each of those sets of CATs?

Hi achilles,

You say that you've taken only 1 CAT, but that your SCORES area all around 640. What 'scores' are you referring to? How long ago did you take that one CAT?

When it comes to CATs, you should start with the 2 free CATs from www.mba.com. After those two, there are a variety of different sources for 'blocks' of CATs. You can purchase 2 additional CATs from www.mba.com and there are 'blocks' of CATs available from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas (either directly online or through the purchase of other materials).

Thanks, I have used 1 CAT, the others have been standard practice tests on paper in books. So like LSAT format, where there are just 37 questions, not CAT. So i have done those and only 1 true CAT. The CAT was the initial assessment I did and hit 640. But nothing has changed too much even after studying, unless the tests in the books are crap. LOL. Did 3 in Barrons.

Hi achilies,

Unfortunately, pencil-and-paper Tests are NOT realistic enough to properly prepare you for the FULL Official GMAT, so you have to be a bit skeptical about those scores (which are likely to be 'inflated.' While those Tests might contain sample questions that are similar to the types of questions that you'll see on Test Day, the Test does NOT adapt, does NOT likely contain questions types in the proper 'ratios', does NOT train you for the physical 'challenges' of Test Day, etc.

Since you're looking for CATs, you're taking your studies in the proper direction. It's important to take FULL-LENGTH CATs (including the Essay and IR sections) at regular intervals throughout your studies (1 CAT every 1-2 weeks), so that you can track your progress and 'fix' any problem areas earlier in the process.

Hi Marty Murray
You mentioned that

"Also, at the moment, if you take a GMAT Prep test and send the score to Veritas, they may give you a set of seven tests for free as they are seeking score data to use for tweaking their tests to maximize accuracy of scores generated."

I cannot find any related information to this on veritas website.
Can you please let us know more details related to this?

Best Regards,
Sandeep

Hi Brent@GMATPrepNow
I am trying to open https://www.princetonreview.com/business ... #!practice
But it does not show any practice tests available.
Is there any restriction of the tests in japan?

Sandeep

That's odd.
I just checked the link and it shows a free practice test.
Perhaps, as you suggest, there is some geographic restriction.

Hi Brent@GMATPrepNow

Below is the screen shot. I am sure it is due to some regional restriction. Just to be sure, could you please confirm that you see a different screen with a practise test than the one below.

Sorry to bother you.
