MS in Accnt for CPA prepration ? NJ

by kp18 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 10:04 am
Hello Friends,

I have BCOM and MCOM in general management from India. I am interested in doing MS-in Accounting which will help me for CPA studies and not just for the sake of credits. This way I will not only get MS degree but it will be A good prep for CPA. Are MS courses geared towards helping for CPA studies?
I am in NJ. I would appreciate your views.

thanks

KP,

As an accountant I don't really see the benefit of an MS in accounting especially if you're going to get your CPA. The truth is for high level accounting jobs being a CPA is what matters. An MS in accounting won't work in lieu of and having both won't have any benefit. The exception would be if the MS in accounting would be needed for the experience or some other requirement. Otherwise I would say invest in a good prep course and pass the exam.

Thanks for your reply OR Jermey.

Last year, I started studying using Beker classes. I missed 75 by 2 points on BEC twice. This has brought my confidence down. So I am wondering if MS in accounting would help me brush up my BS ACCOUNTING knowledge and help me in CPA preparation. This way I wont be hitting my head against the wall and will get aleast MS if not CPA, what do you say?

so my main question is - Will MS in accounting help me preparing for CPA?
