I was terminated in my last position due to performance (I obviously don't agree with it, but it is what it is). I'm app'ing for business school, should I note that I was terminated due to performance on my apps when it asks, reason for leaving company? It wasn't a very good fit, the company that is, and I don't feel that my time there is a reflection of me as a candidate. I don't want to lie (I'd rather put laid off, as I find it was more like that) but I feel that it might hurt my app significantly if I note this too.

I always encourage honesty on applications. However, if you list that you were terminated then you should address the issue in your optional essay and discuss why you were terminated (lack of fit, position did not align with your career goals, etc.) and most importantly, what you learned from the experience. The key is to show that you recognize that there was a problem and you know how to avoid it in the future.
