Last year all refuse collected by Shelbyville city services was incinerated. This incineration generated a large quantity of residual ash. In order to reduce the amount of residual ash Shelbyville generates this year to half of last year's total, the city has revamped its collection program. This y...

Combinatorics Question...(using "Thursday's w/ Ron"

The gist of Ron's strategy from an old Thursday's With Ron Session on how to solve combinatorics problems 03DEC09 (http://www.manhattangmat.com/thursdays-with-ron.cfm): 1) Mark out the number of slots for each decision you have to make 2) Fill in each slot with the number of options 3) Multiply *4) ...

This question represents the harder subclass of assumption questions: the ones where the assumption is not just a link between the premises and the conclusion, but rather a necessary step: the position is that you CANNOT reach the conlcusion WITHOUT assuming C. The question you need to ask yourself...

OG Problem #57

I was wondering if anyone can provide an explanation on why my reasoning is false? Q57: If the county continues to collect residential trash at current levels, landfills will soon be overflowing and parkland will need to be used in order to create more space. Charging each household a fee for each p...

If 3 liters of water are added to Maria's bucket when it is half full of water, the amount of water in the bucket will increase by (1/3). Marcia's bucket can hold a maximum of how many liters of water? 18 liters of water I initially approached it using the following equation. What is my incorrect e...

@Adam I couldn't agree with you more! Very insightful analysis. The questions on the RC are not designed to test you on semantics but on your analytical ability. Probably the passages on the LSAT maybe more about semantics(that's what the lawyers are expected to :-D) but certainly not those you see...

Well, I'd say MGMAT's math books are about 100x better than any official guide books. Referring to your last statement... I'm just testing what others think about RC99 and not dismissing it all together (yet). Funny, it reminds me of a book titled: "Mom, get out of my life, but can you first dr...

Opps, I mean the following: I got it down to both letters that the OA is referring too. However, once again... very ambiguous as to what the camera guy is trying to do. Is the movie trying to emphasize that the child is small (just like how they were trying to emphasize a BIG monster)? If yes, than ...

Let's be carefully on what we consider "easy". To me, reading music is easy, but that's because I've been doing a lot of it. RC may be easy to you since you've been practicing on how to answer RC questions. It's all relative. The "reading" itself might have been easy since it's a...

Thanks for the help. I will say that with the OG Reading Comp problems, the wrong answers are definite and clearly explained. However, I see so many haphazard explanations or justifications on the RC99 answers that it's almost baffling in terms of why a right answer is right and why a wrong answer i...

RC99 Passage 25

Georges LeClerc (1707-1788) proposed a mechanism for calculating the age of the Earth using molten spheres of iron and measuring cooling times, after which he proposed that the Earth was at least 75,000 years old and perhaps as old as three million years. Some students may feel that we should not fo...

Some important issues with RC99 passages

Can I get people's opinion on using RC99? I was a big fan of it for a while but for some reason I'm slowly doubting this RC tool. Every since Passage 18, I'm having doubts on the credibility of the answer choices and the reasons why; a lot of the "right" choices are dubious at best. Any th...

OA is D. Solution: To make the calculations easier, let's assume that there are 100 students in the lecture (100 is usually a good number for percent problems without concrete numbers). Of those 100 students, 30 are finance majors and 40 are female. Of the 70 non-finance majors, we know that 60 per...
