I am non native speaker, it seems the GMAT does not test your english ability, there are many words that even the native speakers don't understand, actually these words are there just to distract you, you should focus more on the structure and try to get the big picture.

From statement 1, we know z=0, if we consider 0 as an even integer, so the value of the whole expression is xyz = 0

I find columbia complicated for the GPA conversion, because it is one of the rare business school, which impose a conversion of grade in GPA american style, even when it is not applicable.
Anyway you can send them an email without your application, and they will tell you exactly what to do.

I was hesitating between E and A but finally my answer is A, because the argument assumes that the presence of bird is a good indicators of the good air quality, but based on the stimulus, we can't assume that the local industry was the only cause to the air-pollution problems.
