Let us consider the first statement. (i). X=80 but no information given on Y hence insufficient. (ii). Y=2 but no information given on X hence insufficient. Considering both statements together --: original acid solution's weight = 80 80 Grams of water were added. Hence new weight of the acid soluti...

Given : x = (y-z)^2 (i) Statement 1 yz=13 There is no information on limitations to y and z i.e. whether they are decimals, integers, etc. So a quick way can be to plug in a few numbers to evaluate this answer choice. 1. y=13,z=1 (y-z)=12 and hence x^2=144 2. y=-13,z=-1 (y-z)=-14 and hence x^2=196 W...

I chose B as well. It was pretty much down to A and B using the contrast introduced by the conjunction "but".

Choosing between A and B was quite tough.

I had seen a similar problem before so it helped in the approach for this problem. Mitch's response was the best approach possible. Was able to nail down to D.

The approach to choose between D and E was particularly wonderful and a good learning.

The conclusion of the given argument is that the ban on deer hunting has caused the deer population to increase which has in turn resulted in danger to public safety. A : This look good. Lets keep this under consideration. This provides best support B : This mentions about the accident to the motori...

I plugged in 1/2 and -2 for both the options. Did not evaluate a negative fraction and therein made the mistake. I got B which is wrong. The explanations above are really good. The plugging in approach is most suitable but one needs to be careful in selecting numbers so as to not miss any choice. Go...

I approached this one using POE and found A as the only relevant answer choice to the argument. Also as rightly explained in the previous posts, the argument states that 1 in every 100 drivers involved in a accident dues to break failure. If from a total of say 1000 accidents only 1 is going to be d...

Good question. A was the trap answer and I fell for it and chose A. The explanations above are really good. I can now see that B fits the answer. It is given straight away in the first line " because of the substantial increase in the number of flights operated by the airlines" . Since the...

Reading through the responses above I think I got luck with D. :) Came down to between D and E.

I used the approach that only D fits best for the subject Elizabeth... and "she" seems redundant in E.

Good responses above though. Learnt through them. :)

The reasoning/approach to solve this question is similar to quite a few PS questions seen on the GMAT prep. Knowing the approach of using the divisibility will surely help in other questions. The answer is B for this question and it seems a pretty straight forward question to be asked on the actual ...

It took me close to the full 2 mins to conclude on E. I took the approach of plugging in. (i). We get a range of numbers for this value. K can be any number between 250 (K+150=400) to 349 (K+150=499). (ii). Since there is no restriction on the Hundreds digit we get a large range of values for every ...

This is one real tough word translation for me. why we are adding and subtracting the stream speed for downstream and upstream respectively? the previous post has explained the logic already so my explanation is late. :( Anyways...

Good one...some fantastic explanations.

I reached out to B = 1/3 of the job and also the share being 240 but then got stuck. The mistake that I made was that I did not realize the average per day was asked. Takes me back to square one i.e. the question asked needs to be looked into closely.

Zeroed in on the idiom "rivalry between ..and.." correctly. While most of the above comments state that E changes meaning, I felt that the movie could have focused on both Olive and her rivalry hence eliminating E was personally tough. However as rightly mentioned by Gmatkiss, it is mentio...

Can anyone provide a simpler explanation please? Let me take a shot at trying to explain the solution in a simpler way. 1. The cube1 has 6 faces. 2 faces have area as l*b, 2 faces have area as l*h and 2 faces have area as b*h. Surface area of the Cube1 is sum of all these areas i.e. 2(l*b)+2(l*h)+2...
