my $ 0.02: It really depends on the interviewer. They can take different interpretations to your asked questions. If the interview is really candid, you could ask a general interesting question about the interviewers profile - maybe he has contrasting work ex given his education, so on and so forth....

I got an interview call through email... so I believe you should be expecting the same in case they want any further correspondence. Even if your application is incomplete, they should get in touch with you through email and ask you for whatever's pending.
