When 1/10 percent of 5000 is subtracted from 1/10 of 5000 the difference is
a.0
b.50
c.450
d.495
e.500
1/10 percent means 1/10 OF 1% --> 1/100*1/10 = 1/1000
1/1000 * 5000 = 5
1/10 * 5000 = 500
500-5 = 495 (D)

When 200 gallons of oil were removed from a tank, the volume of oil left in the tank was 3/7 of the tank’s capacity. So the only reason why we can't give the capacity and the volume the same variable in this context is because we don't know whether BEFORE the 200 gallons were removed, whether the...

I would think otherwise.
GMAT Focus is a paper diagnostic test. Hence its not adaptive. The real exam is adaptive. Therefore it should be harder than the paper version.
But lets see what the experts have to say!

Is k^2 + k -2 > 0 ? 1) k=1 2) k > -1 This is a Definitive Yes/No Question. A definitive YES OR NO will make the statement sufficient. (1) Clearly Sufficient. k^2 + k -2 --> 1+ (-1) = 0. Hence a definitive NO. (2) K > -1 We don't know whether K is an integer or a fraction. K can be { -1/2, 0, 1/2, 1...

Consider 2 cases, Gross income was 100 and Net Deductions were 10 (Gross income to Deduction ratio =10) Gross income was 200 and deductions were 10 ((Gross income to Deduction ratio = 20) The net income increase in both cases are...

You can also do it by plugging in numbers: 1/(1-b) < b-a? (1) a < b We have 2 variables, hence create 3 versions of their relationship. 1. where they are both negative: a = -4 and b = -1 2. Where they are both positive: a = 1 and b = 2 3. Where one is positive and one is negative. a = -1 and b = 1 N...

Is the integer x divisible by 6? (1) x + 3 is divisible by 3 (2) x + 3 is an odd number. (1) x + 3 is divisible by 3 This means that x is also a multiple of 3. Hence x + 3 is a multiple of 3. But x could be 0, 3, 6. If x=3, x is not divisible by 6. Otherwise it is. Hence Insufficient. (2) x + 3 is a...
