it sounds dumb to me to guess blindly on any question. ALWAYS read it or you are irrevocably lowering your score.
If you must choose one of your strategies, then I would recommend trying them out on practice CAT exams and choosing whichever consistently results in a higher score.

Look at the questions you got wrong and if they are Q- relearn these subject areas and do plenty of similar practice problems. UPDATE: (specifically for Jim) Thank you so much for encouraging me to switch back to a GMAT Prep test. I took GMATPrepI again and also scored in the mid 700s which boosted my confidence tremendously in the week before the test! The Kaplan book may have helped in strategy but it was extremely frustr...
