So in somewhat similar shoes. First time I took the GMAT got a 710 w/ 78th in Q, 89th in verbal Took it again and got a 750 but still 78th in Q but 99th in verbal. I didn't really spend anytime practicing for the second try ... my big problem the first time around was that I got nervous in math so I...

750 (47/47) - I Beat the GMAT!!
Hey Everyone, I retook the GMAT today. First time around I got a 710 (47 Q, 40 V). I knew I could score higher as my practice tests were consistently in the mid 700's so I re-took. Today I retook the test and got a 750 (47/47) which I'm definitely stoked about. A bit disappointed that I didn't impro...

I'm no admissions consultant but I've never heard of anyone needing a 750+ to get into a top business school. Your GMAT is solid so just focus on essays and recommendations. GMAT is mostly a check-box and at 730, you won't be dragging any school's GMAT avg. down so don't worry about it at all, good ...

Re-take?
Hi, Would love some advice. I just took the GMAT and ended with a 710 (78th on math, 89th verbal, 92nd total). Realize the math is below the 80th mark and the overall would be towards the bottom of the mid 50% for HBS last year. Any advice on whether it is work retaking? From my transcript, the adco...

two suggestions: - Get your hands on MGMAT SC guide and read over a couple of times - You don't want to be in a position of guessing the last 5 or 6 questions in quant. Get in the habit of recognizing 2 or 3 questions that you will skip as you go through to save up time for the rest of the test. Spr...

Take a GMAT diagnostic just to get a sense of where you are. The GMAT Prep software on mba.com is the best representation of the actual test though you may want to save those two tests for later in your studies. All the test prep companies offer free practice tests. Take one and find out where you s...

In my experience, it depends on where your GMAT score is today and where you want to go. I did Kaplan tutoring which I found to be very helpful. Kaplan offers two sets of regulars courses: regular GMAT and advanced GMAT. From my assessment, the regular is focused on students scoring in the 500's who...

As someone who has taken 7 Kaplan CATs and all 6 MGMATs, I'd recommend the MGMATs. MGMAT math questions are harder than official GMAT Prep but I feel more realistic and better written than Kaplan. Don't know if you can buy them individually though. What are your weak areas based on the MGMAT test an...

Can you really miss 11 in Q and still get 49????
Hey all, I re-took GMATPrep 1 today. Thought I screwed up math which indeed I did with 11 wrong answers. It still gave me a 49 in Q however. the wrong answers were spread out (and in some cases were in the RWRW pattern). I understand that spread out wrong answers are better than a few in a row but h...

Missing a number of questions in a row (even if just 3 or 4) will have a bigger downward impact on your score than missing the same 3 or 4 spread across the test. I don't feel it's a good idea to skip any or all RC passages because of that. Instead of skipping, concentrate your prep efforts on RC an...

From my experience (and I have yet to take the real GMAT), the best tests are the GMAT Prep (official exams available from mba.com) and Manhattan GMAT tests. MGMAT quant tends to be harder than GMAT Prep. I'm pretty skeptical of Kaplan tests. Scoring sometimes seems very strange and question quality...
