I appreciate the advice, even though I think you are slightly harsh, but anything below an 800 gmat is not 'good'? Come on...that just borders on ridiculous. If your point is to get people to understand not to take anything for granted and make sure they work on all facets of their application to th...

What, specifically, do you think makes me a stretch at Virginia and Duke (Columbia/Penn I expected--really who isn't a stretch at these schools?) I figured considering that while I have a below average GPA, it's in the range for those schools, and my gmat is above the 80% range at UVA and at the hig...

Profile Evaluation; Strong GMAT, Weak GPA
Would anyone be willing to give me an evaluation? I plan on starting my MBA in Fall 2011, so don't plan on sending out applications until October 2010 (I still feel the date is going to sneak up on me quickly!) 24 (26 at matriculation) year old, White American Male Undergrad Info: Bachelor of Scienc...

Thanks for the info, I feel better about scheduling my appointments (I planned on calling the admissions office and asking them if it's a good time to visit, but I'd imagine they can be biased one way or the other), I'm glad to know I'm not the only one thinking the way you are. I have 3 days to ta...

When do you plan on applying? I would like to visit schools at some point this spring, but don't plan on applying until fall 2010 (for fall 2011 admission). Do any prospective students take visits so early? I'd also like to visit UNC at one point

I would just report the final GPA you received from your undergraduate institution. If for some odd reason you didn't receive a final GPA (which would be very weird) then check whether that course you took over the summer was just transfered as credit, or if the grade was transfered as well. That w...

Questions about GPA section of application
There are 2 sections on the applications I'm looking at, first you list your undergraduate institutions, then you list your (calculated) GPA. This is slightly upsetting, as I recieved a 3.01 GPA from my undergraduate institution, but I received a C+ from a community college course the summer after m...

Great information, thanks a lot. One last thing--you mention that if I have a compelling reason for a low ugpa, I should talk about it in my optional essays. Well, to tell the truth, I don't really have a great reason. I'd call it apathy; I had no intention of going to graduate school for anything w...

During more normal (read: better) economic times, is a career switch to investment banking more palatable? I know noone can predict the market, but I have no problem waiting out another year or 2 before applying if it'll help. As far as extracurricular activites, I have the following: -Started/run w...

MBA for career switch?
I was wondering if this is a compelling reason to enter b-school for an MBA, a career switch. In my case, from Software Engineering to Investment Banking. Are MBA candidates successful in switching careers through an MBA? I'm talking of a relatively early career switch, with 3-5 years of experience ...

I'm glad I saw this thread. As a guy with a 750 gmat (homerun!) and 3.0 GPA (blech), I want to work on an "alternate transcript" Now I know that the general way of accomplishing this is taking some courses online or at a community college (business related courses) and achieving A's. Howev...

I have NO doubt that Wharton will not frown on a 750. I think the 80/80 is just something they have to say coz they don't want to be quoted as saying 75% is okay. But in reality I am sure there are a bunch of people at Wharton below 80% in Quant. Congratilations! To take this a step further, I woul...
