Astronomer: Observations of the Shoemaker-Levi comet on its collision course with Jupiter showed that the comet broke into fragments before entering Jupiter's atmosphere in 1994, but they did not show how big those fragments were. In hopes of gaining some indication of the fragments' size, astronom...

IMO, option E. The correct assumption must be true for the conclusion to remain intact. If we negate E, we get "Time saved by SP23 WILL BE enough to compensate the 3 days of repair". If that is true, it means that SP20 would take 6 days for production whereas SP23 would take only 3 days so...

Hi David, thanks again for your explanation. I think due to your expertise/experience with CR problems you are able to quickly get to the point of the argument and hence the clarity/confidence in your analysis. You are starting with the premise that the red worm pop. would fall due to the blackened ...

The argument, in effect, is claiming that factory pollution has ruined the red worms' camouflage, and so the red worms, which have become more vulnerable to predators, are dying in larger numbers. We know that the ratio of red worms to black worms has decreased from 5:1 to nearly 1:1, but we don’...

With FIND ASSUMPTION questions, I recommend the following approach: 1. Try to find the logical gap in the argument before looking at the answer choices. Do this by asking, "taking the premises as true, is there a way for the conclusion not to be true?" 2. When looking through the answer c...

In GMAT CR the BOTTOM-LINE is: 1. For ASSUMPTION CR - the OA is a MUST BE TRUE STATEMENT, which has to be also a NEW INFORMATION at the same time. I think that you have a good general understanding of the idea, but just to be semantically precise... An ASSUMPTION does not have to be NEW information...

In an experiment, each volunteer was allowed to choose between an easy task and a hard task and was told that another volunteer would do the other task. Each volunteer could also choose to have a computer assign the two tasks randomly. Most volunteers chose the easy task for themselves and under qu...

IMHO, the difference between the 2 most likely correct options (A and D) is subtle. D gives the probabilities of getting cancer for the tested people - those who tested +ve (for the genes), those who tested -ve. Most likely, the -ve ones will reduce their frequency of tests whereas the +ve will incr...

No doubt this would be a 750-800 level question on the GMAT. Before I attempt to explain why A is indeed the "correct" option, I have to admit that I chose C as the correct option. It seems that both A and C are assumptions in the argument. So the question perhaps is not which is the corre...

The choice is between options A and B. Both , if true, will weaken the argument. B is the stronger choice because it involves every one of those respondents whereas A involves only some of them.

Please excuse me if this is not the right way to post a follow-up question. For me the choice was between D and E. Both the options seem to give Coffee Roast enough incentive to install the afterburner. The experts have explained why E is correct and it makes sense because the decision is purely mon...
