Here " the wolf" refers to the species and not an individual organism or a pack of wolves. When referring to the wolf as species, the noun in singular.
eg: Tiger is an endangered species. We do not say, Tigers are an endangered species.

This can be solved without any calculations with just mental maths.
the initial ratio of boarders to day scholars is 7:16 and no.of boarders is 560
to make it 7:16 to 1/2 is same as making 7:16 to 8:16. so 560=7*x, x=80, we need to make it 8*x=640
640-560=80

Its simple. the coefficient of 'x' in the question is 1. so (x+5y), (5x -y) cannot be multiplied with any of the other options, so that leaves only one combination, (x+y) * (x-y). Since there are 4 items, there are 4C2 ways of choosing the outcomes. i.e 6 ways. so answer is 1/6. hope it makes sense.

One hour per day is tight.. mostly I also got no more than an hour a day.. My advise would be, be really focused, and set targets for that on hour, like 15 SC, 3-4 RCs or 20 quant and 15 CRs. and then take the mock tests every weekend. thats would be my advice.

I couldn't understand your question.. But to answer whatever I understood, I don't know how IELTS score can help decide how prepared you are for GMAT.. those two are completely different and independent. I'd suggest you take a sample GMAT test and see how much you score.
