First, I found how quickly two trains moving at the *same* speed could cover that ground: 287 miles / 3.5 hours = 82 miles per hour That means the trains are moving together at an average of 82 miles per hour. Statement 1: 1) Substitute X = 1/2 gives us Y = + SQRT(10/3) , - SQRT (10/3) Which will tell us Y is not equal to 1 , Which is sufficient 2) Substitute X = 1/2 gives us Y = 1 ( exactly ) which is sufficient to answer Hence D be the answer in my point of view, Please let me know how it got B as answer
