Let me rephase. If both sentences were on the GMAT, which one would be correct?
From what I had learned during my brief GMAT studies, the sentence using the word "then" would be incorrect as it is too "wordy".

Please help to settle a bet.
Which one of these two sentences is correct (if any)?

I just recieved the official score results and wanted to mention something about the essay section and GMAT Prep Now. The first time I took the exam I recieved a 3.5 on the essay section. When preparing for my next attempt, the only studying I did for the essay section was to watch the GMAT Prep Now...

What was the question asking for? Sorry about that. :-) The question was asking the value of f(x), where f(x) = x^n + x^(n-1) + x^(n-2) where n = the sum of all of the prime numbers up to 430. If that sum is odd, then the answer would be -1 (-1 + 1 + -1). If even, then the answer would be 1 (1 + -1...

GMAT exam question won't leave me alone
Hey, I just passed the GMAT!! :-)) CELEBRATION!!!! :-D However.......... There was this ONE PROBLEM that keeps eating at me! It says let x = -1. Then it gives a formula and that formula is x to the power of n plus x to the power of (n-1) plus x to the power of (n-2). So, x^n + x^(n-1) + x^(n-2). The...

I beat the GMAT!
I just walked out of the testing center about two hours ago with a 610. I needed a 550 or better to get into San Jose State University graduate business school. I initially took the exam after reading a couple of test prep books and got a 430. A friend told me about beatthegmat.com so I got on here ...

Forgive me, but I am totally lost. If the contestant is given three keys to three boxes that collectively contain 1101 dollars, and they can open any of the boxes they want, then they are always going to open all three boxes, and the probability of them collecting more than 1000 dollars (i.e. 1101 d...

Sorry about that. I would have written down the answer choices had I had them. I only had the problem from scribbling it down during the test.
Good point about the relative size of the numbers.
Thanks!

Well that is a great idea! I didn't think I could assume that x = 1 and y = 1 just because x*y = 1, but, now that I think about it, I don't see why we couldn't do this.

After completing the GMAT Prep Now video sessions, I am happy to report that I scored a 640 on my practice test today. This is great, considering my first (and only so far) attempt at the GMAT (before the GMAT Prep Now videos) yielded a 430. There were two math problems in particular that didn't see...
