I am excited at scoring 680 on the first shot and I think I can get to 720 on the next shot if I can work on my timing. But I keep hearing that there is not much of a diff between 680 and 720. Any suggestions? And even if I did get a 720, do I even have shot with my crappy undergrad GPA? My target ...

But i would like to know if my previous score and no. of attempts will play a major role in admissions. Schools generally only use your highest scores for admissions. Taking it multiple times is not necessairly a bad thing - it shows that you've got persistence and you're serious about getting a go...

Can my AWA or IR score hurt or help my chances of getting into a certain program? 1. AWA - this score is basically pass/fail. If you get a 4.5+, you're okay. 2. IR - The IR scores aren't going to mean much in this year's admissions since it's new and there are still a lot of valid scores prior to J...

So if the OG guide is not the best option, then what book do you recommend for the math section?

I think I will definitely join the 60 day session.
I'm a big fan of this book. Go through it cover to cover.

This is straight from it's website and I highly, highly doubt that they will lie on it's website. I have taken the GMAT and/or GRE several times. Which score does the admissions committee consider? The admissions committee takes into consideration your highest test score. The Tuck application allow...

The good news is you had an awesome quant score! I would recommend this book: http://www.totalgmatverbal.com/ Make a strict schedule and stick to it going through it cover-to-cover. No shortcuts here - if you can get your verbal into the 30's, you're looking at a 650+ score (a 50Q 35V should be good...

Accounting, stats and econ courses are core program requirements in most of the schools I am applying to, so I know that showing that on my app would be a no-no. What I meant to convey was that I am not interested in going into finance or fields that would require heavy quant/theoretical knowledge,...

I guess, you should not show that you will take Non Quant courses in MBA. This shows that you are not ready to take up challenges. Agree with this. Stating that you're not trying to go in a Quant-heavy field and don't intend to take quant courses is a bad idea. I'm not familiar with Texas' core cur...

But I also heard that schools generally do not like it if somebody takes the gmat again after an already "good (700+)" score as it is viewed as a "bad judgement ".. Personally, I think that's nonsense. There's nothing wrong with taking the GMAT twice, especially if you know you ...

Your 4.5 is good enough. The AWA is basically a pass/fail portion part of the test. If you're 4.5 and above, that's good enough for the Adcom. 4.0 and below makes them start to wonder who wrote your essays. In other words, a 6.0 is not going to enhance your candidacy - it just doesn't matter enough....

If you're going to take it again, take it now. GMAT scores are good for five years, so there shouldn't be a "preference" for more recent scores if they're valid. The IR section is an odd thing to judge as schools aren't sure what to make of it yet. If you retake don't just study the IR par...

I know everyone's been saying not to worry about IR too much but being at the 53rd percentile definitely doesn't put me at ease (getting at least a 6 would have made me feel much better). I will most likely applying in 2013 or 2014 at which point I believe B-schools will have a much better idea of ...

The average GMAT score that HBS reports (730 last year) is of accepted students. Accepted or Enrolled? I know with HBS's ridiculous 89% yield those numbers are close, but for other top schools where the yield is between 50-70%, there could be a bit of delta between the average score for accepted st...

I can't speak specifically for Houston, but nowadays, business schools like to interview everyone they admit, so an interview is a very positive thing. Generally speaking, it means the Adcom liked your application enough to want to speak to you and then make a final decision - after all, a good chun...

Also I would like to know whether there is a difference between 710 and 730 ? (with regards to admission) My non-expert reply is: probably not. There's so much else to evaluate in an application that 20 extra points isn't going to make or break you - epecially if you're talking about a 92% and a 96...
