How quickly can you do one (or maybe two)? I plan to submit apps for R3 to a few top schools I didn't have time for in R2, and they are due on April 3rd & 4th.

Thanks Jon. I'm already using my optional essay to explain the peaks and valleys in my academic performance. I suppose I can just cut that essay in half and use a paragraph or two to explain the recs? I wonder how much of a negative hit the recs were considering that I didn't explain them at all in ...

Recommendations - a biz partner & a church leader?

As an entrepreneur, I've never had a supervisor. Also, my business is not one that's based on client relationships. I've had thousands of clients but none of them could really write me a recommendation. Same goes for my suppliers, dozens of suppliers, there are a couple who could write me a rec, but...

Accepting borderline applicants based on high GMAT score?

It seems to me that, not counting H/S/W/MIT, the other biz schools may try harder to find a reason to admit a borderline candidate with a 780-800 score than they would to admit a slightly "better" candidate with a 700-740 score. The reasoning would be that if both are borderline and even i...

Yeah you need to kill it on the essays. Don't know if you have time to re-take the GMAT and improve it by 100 or so points, but that would help significantly. Being Indian hurts (as it does in almost every school in the US), so they expect a lot more out of you to get you in. See if you can differen...

Thanks Jon, yeah that's what I'm going to do, Haas was one I applied to which asked and I know they probably hate losing people to other top schools (who doesn't right?) It's going to be the whole silicon valley and Haas tech entrepreneurship spin I'm going to have to give 'em. We'll see when (if) t...

I would also say watch out for this when applying to schools such as Harvard and Stanford, who are known to now favor younger candidates. They're seemingly worried about their 100 2+2 students and other traditional students (out of Consulting or i-banking after just 2-4yrs of WE) meshing with older ...

Guess it's too late for me. I realized why they were asking this (worries about admit rate and maybe to a lesser degree how much time you've had to do the app based on the # of apps you did, to see if you have a theme across schools or if you're just applying to top 5, etc.) But I was just completel...

Do b-schools factor in post-MBA salaries of Entrepreneurs?

Since post-MBA salaries are a factor in so many of the rankings, b-schools probably want to have graduates receive the highest salary offers possible. But how do they calculate salary for an entrepreneur? What if the graduate takes a very modest salary, let's say $30k for a year or two, do they stil...

Thank you Jon. That's what I was thinking...even though simply thinking about classes back then has made me come up with so many other, interesting, reasons why I didn't do as well. It wasn't just being immature...so I'm tempted to write about that. But I'll think about it a bit more, in light of my...

How to explain wildly fluctuating semester GPAs? 3.1 overall

Hello, I am trying to figure out what the best way would be to explain the ups and downs in my semester-to-semester GPA. I've had health-related issues (not cancer, but serious), family-related issues (death & a serious disability), and growth/maturity-related issues as well. But I don't want th...

Mentioning Campus Visits

How important is it to actually mention a campus visit?

Don't they already know I visited if I registered for a tour or if I visited the admissions office?

Or is the only way they can find out that I visited is if I actually mention it in an essay?

Thank you!
