Answer is D. My way of solving this is to reduce the general case into a specific case (sorry, algebra!) Let: j = 4 Which gives: k = 20 l = 60 m = 140 0.2m = 28 2j = 8 0.2m/2j = 28/8 = 3.5 = 350% (question asks for percent) Easy-peasy : ) Hi MM_Ed, Can you please suggest what made you choose 4 for ...

1. D 2. E 3. A. It's not B because harsh times only increased the appeal of norms that softened laissez-faire capitalism (38-42), it's not C because the norms still existed in the late 19th century (33-37), D is tricky - we know that mercantilist notions supported the norms (27-30), but we're not to...

I'd say E. The argument is that the lack of insurance takes away an incentive to report, therefore leading to fewer cases reported. The first bold section presents findings that this argument aims to explain. The second is an objection raised against the argument (it says that the differences in rep...

x does 1/12 of the job in 1 hour.
y 1/15
z 1/18
y + z = (1/15) + (1/18) = (33/270)
x/(y + z) = (1/12)/(33/270) = 15/22
These are the rates, so the time is in the ratio 22/15.
Common-sense check: 33/270 > 1/12, so y + z is faster than x, so x must take more time!

I'm no expert, but I understand that recommendation letters are meant to be confidential. If you want to delete the damning one, it will raise red flags and make them suspect you had access to it, which would really sink you. Right now, it's 50:50 in your favour (I'm assuming the other recommender w...

In my opinion, C. The Attorney says that we mustn't allow fakes to steal from public money, because then it's effectively stealing from a pot that everyone has paid taxes to fill. Now, it might be that the fakes have paid taxes too, but they're also stealing far more than they put in, while the hone...

I am still not clear with this can some one give a better explanation?? Let me give it a shot. We're looking for the option that does not contradict the passage. That doesn't mean it has to explicitly support the passage - it can be a neutral statement too, as long as it doesn't contradict. D is sa...

A and C are decoys - totally beside the point to solve this question.
B can do the work in 15 days. He worked 5 days = 1/3 of the time so he did 1/3 of the work and gets 1/3 of the money.
$720/3 = $240
Average = $240/5 = $48
