2 general essay questions--how informal can you be?
I have visited or have friends at most of the schools that I am applying to. Is it acceptable (or encouraged) to throw some vignette into your essay about meeting so and so or going to a certain class, discussing a certain professor and so on? It seems to me like it does show your interest but also ...

Thanks for the replies. I decided by the end of Monday that my application just wasn't where it needed to be. Going to apply R3. Hope it doesn't hurt too much because I do really like the school but wanted to make sure I put forth my best self.

Round 2 vs Round 3 at Cornell Johnson
I have looked but didn't see any other topics on this. Could anyone who has experience, or one of the experts, comment on the the differences between the two? Will your application be viewed much more favorably in R2 than R3? I was visiting schools last week and then thanksgiving threw a wrench in m...

thanks for the explanations.
i somehow got stuck at 13!(12!+14!) when the obvious next step is to factor out 12! and get 13!12!(1+[14*13])...13!12!(183) and 3*61=183. ergo 61 is answer.

You have a typo in your article btw. Your question states that you can't use a "1, 6, or 8" but then in your answer you list an option for the tens and ones digit of "1,2,3,4,5" when it should be "0,2,3,4,5" which results in the same answer obviously. Thanks though thos...

Brent, are there some obvious examples of when you CANNOT use the slot method? #1 issue I have with these questions is figuring out how to attack them so if there were any ironclad (or near) characteristics or keywords of when you cannot solve using the slot method it would be AWESOME if you could s...

another combination problem--trying to use 'slot method'
I thought I could use the slot method on all 'at least one' problems but it seems to be failing me here (or very possibly I am doing it wrong). Herb bought a different present for each of his four grandchildren, but he forgot to label the gifts after wrapping them. If Herb randomly gives each grandc...

Yea, it definitely did miss all of those. Frustrating when you buy a book and it has bad/vague questions or wrong answers. Appreciate the help on this one. Do you think that the slot method is still the best way to approach this problem if you saw it on a test? Or how would you best attack this prob...

You know that her average daily balance is just a sum of the balance on every day divided by 30. And you know that she starts with a balance of $600 and that will be her daily balance every day until she pays $300. Once she pays $300 her daily balance will be $300. Statement A: She was credited with...

Brett, I really appreciate the reply. And I think I understand what you are saying however the answer from the book differs slightly. Either way it seems I need to start by acknowledging that there are 5! or 120 ways the short presentations can be presented. The book's explanation says: Let S repres...

PR 1012 GMAT Q's: Combination/Permutation Prob
Having trouble, again, deciding how to best answer the question... A conference is to have eight presentations over the course of one day, consisting of three long presentations, and five short presentations. If the conference organizer doesn't want consecutive long presentations, and the conference...

so with replacement there will always be 52 cards and an equal number of suits. using the slot method you can pick any card in first slot, 52/52 * 39/52 (52 cards -13 cards of whichever suit was picked first) * 26/52 (52- 13*2 of the two suits picked so far) * 13/52 (only one suit remains) or, 1*(3/...
