OA should not be C. Scientist believe means they still believe. So the bacterial is still believed to be causing the problem. Bacteria is plural. So A should be it. looks like this question is prepared from a CR question with same sentence.

in B, the modifier containing a,b,c and d should modify the chip. The usage containing a,b,c and d is correct because and is no other way to write it in this particular choice. But E is a better choice.
