Scored 720, sad! Advice to fellow Gmatters

by ashu23202 » Sat Oct 16, 2010 2:31 am
Hi,

Just completed my test, scored a meager 720 ( I am an Indian, and i wont get anything with this ). Very sad but still want to give some crucial advice to others. Please do not take these lightly.
  • Take GMAT to be another exam, the more you think of it as a hurdle, the more likely it is that you will fall.
Always stabilize your scores on various tests and then go for GMAT ( My scores ranged from 680-750 at home ) - actual exam ditched me :(
Your scores are directly proportional to your hold on your nerves.
Test is manageable if you have practiced speed in AWA along with speed in other two sections.
You tend to score lesser on the actual GMAT. (Take my scores as example)
    Practice MGMATs definitely.
    Sleep well before the exam.
Do not take breaks when sitting at home and practicing.
Do not take the last questions lightly, devote enough time for those. I always, always bungled my last ten questions. This repeated in the actual exam too.
There are two ways to excel at the exam: practice and practice.
For Indian students: verbal can ditch anytime, always practice more than what is required.
Regards,
Ashutosh

GMAT Score:640

Don't be so worry buddy, 720 is a great score. Congratulation on your great job. Even Harvard requires an average score of that. Why being an Indian will make you get nothing with that? If applying to Biz School, you still have great chances as long as your overall profile is good.

And about actual score vs practicing score, I got my experience too. I made an 680 in the GMATPrep 2 test at home, but got an 630 in the real one. Now I'm learning and will try another shot soon.

Hope you will be successful with your application.

And again, your score is great!

Thanks for kind words friends. But i think i am going to be very sad for today, but as mom says " wakt se pehle, bhagya se jyada, kisi ko kuch nai milta' ( Before its 'time', and beyond one's kismet, no one gets anything)

I have been tasting failure in quite some tests now..so this sadness...but i am sure..good times shall come some day!! One day!!

GMAT Score:630

stop being a drama queen... 720 is no different than a 740 or 750.

Yea, you're Indian and you are competing with a competitive group... but 720 is pretty much all you need. You've already past step one of getting into b-school, getting a (highly) competitive score.

Now stop worrying about it and go write some good essays. They are looking for some who will add something dynamic to the business class experience and someone who is well rounded. They aren't looking for some guy with a 780 score with no personality and no people skills.

Again, go update your resume and write some compelling essays.. you are wasting your time worrying about your GMAT score.
