Scholarships based solely on gmat?

by ardit » Wed Feb 18, 2009 1:13 pm
I've heard there's even full scholarships being offered based on the gmat score you get, of course after being accepted.

This seems like the appropriate place to ask as your return on investment for beating the gmat could mean a free mba at good/decent b school.

I know that mos of the a-league schools don't offer any scholarships and if they do it is deff. not based solely on gmat. This is for the rest of them :D

Hey A,
I would urge you to contact the school directly, as most schools have many scholarship programs, with different criteria.

I've never heard of a scholarship solely based on your GMAT score (the schools probably look at other factors as well). Scholarships are often given out to those who are at risk not accepting a school's offer because they can go to a better school. So ironically, those who get the scholarships are often the most competitive applicants who need financial help the least (because they were already very successful in their pre-MBA careers).

Another reason to consider beating the GMAT: Recruiting. Some companies (McK, Goldman, Google, etc.) look at your GMAT score when you apply for summer internships / full-time positions. A very low score could prevent you from receiving even a 1st round interview.

However, having said that, the large majority of companies out there doesn't ask for your GMAT score.
