Not every woman, even those who have a strong familial history of breast cancer, wants to know if she carries a BRCA mutation, a serious risk factor for that cancer.

e Not all women, even the ones who have a strong familial history of breast cancer, want to know if she carries a BRCA mutation, considered a serious risk factor for that cancer.
OA is A. My doubt is in A " those" refer to which plural noun? every woman is singular I believe. Please suggest.

I don't like it. I have seen it justified, but I find that construction to be illogical in a way, maybe not because of exactly what you said, but I believe that you are onto something.prachi18oct wrote:Not every woman, even those who have a strong familial history of breast cancer, wants to know if she carries a BRCA mutation, a serious risk factor for that cancer.

While we know what it conveys, the construction does not make logical sense. Let's simplify it and see how it looks.
Not every woman, even those with shoes, likes to walk many miles. What? It's just not right somehow.
I prefer something along these lines.
Not every woman, even among those with shoes, likes to walk many miles. That seems better.
Maybe there is a still better way to say it, but anyway, you get my point.

A plural pronoun MUST have a PLURAL antecedent.prachi18oct wrote:My doubt is in A " those" refer to which plural noun? every woman is singular I believe. Please suggest.
In A, those (plural) cannot serve to refer to every woman (singular).
