Well this is from kaplan CAT 4
This was first question in the my CAT and after thinking for 4 minutes i still made mistake
OA is E
BUT
i think for this to be true QUESTION SHOULD HAVE THIS ASSUMPTION
ONLY those are COMPACT DISCS in which we get songs and other materials performed by artist.
or
ALL compact discs have songs or other thing performed by artist (rather than being a electronic medium)
Does compact disc mean that?
Well i have reading CD disc means optical media that carries electronic data(not necessarily things performed by artist).
Now,as being computer user,i have seen Compact discs with softwares, photos(which has nothing to take with price artist takes). So how is this answer correct.
The question doesnt says it is taking about CD of songs.
I think there should be some extra info in question for this answer to be right.Otherwise, suppose if it was CD with softwares or even BLANK CD how will that E make sense?
thanks
Question making huge assumption

the argument says that price for selling CD increased so fast while production cost slightly increase... therefore, high price /high selling price must be blamed for the increasing price ( its like there are several stores selling fishes in the town, several stores suddenly increased price and this action leads to all stores in the town to increase selling price. its like a movement to devaluate. this is called " dirty play" and its illegal"
we have to weaken the conclusion, we have to find another reason to beat the conclusion in the text or find a sentence / answer choices which derectly weaken the conclusion and E does that. E says that beside cost, the company must pays other fees raising in time of production the CD so the high selling price is nature...
for an example: when you saw clothes to sell, the production cost includes free of making model , fee of buying cloths, fees of employing employee.... ...
all these + a percent of profit = sell
i hope you can understand my engrish

Then there is no difference what ever price the musician takes.
See what dictionary says about CD
A Compact Disc (also known as a CD) is an optical disc used to store digital data.
It doesnt say CD means medium to store music only.
We know that even in our general life.
I think you are also generalizing the same thing that CD means CD with music where as CD is broader term.
What if the question was about BLANK CD.(It is sold as well)
Then the industries increase price as said in question,it still illegal even though artist start taking high charges.(That "artist taking higher price" would be irrelevant to Blank CD industry).
The question says nowhere that it is music CD.

Frank if you go back to the original passage it specifically mentions "music companies" as being the sellers of the CDs. That means the question is clearly about music and not software.

Oh yes i missed that.fitzgerald23 wrote:Frank if you go back to the original passage it specifically mentions "music companies" as being the sellers of the CDs. That means the question is clearly about music and not software.
Any way one reason for that may be
first it talks about general cds
and all of a sudden squeeze in word 'music' suddenly.
Any way i agree now it makes some sense.
thanks.
