Profile Eval: GMAT 700 - 8 years work ex

by anuprajan5 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 11:12 am
Hi,

I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on my profile.

Indian
Undergraduation: B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
GMAT : 700 V38 Q48 IR 6

I started off my career in 2005, along with many other of my contemporaries, in the Software Industry. I went from being a fresh face to having a team of mine with 4 people in 15 months. But somewhere along the way, I realized that this was not a career I wanted.

In 2006, I joined Maersk Line, which is part of the A.P.Moller-Maersk Group, as part of a 2 year trainee program. This meant that I worked different jobs in different functions and business untits every 6 months. I worked in functions such as customer service, sales, finance etc. This program also entailed that I travel to Copenhagen, Denmark every 6 months for educational courses such as basic investment, container business specific training etc. We were tutored by professors from Copenhagen Business School.

Once I graduated the program, I worked for Maersk Line India for 2 years. Post that, I moved to my current job in Maersk Line Denmark where i work on exciting projects on container vessels.

You can find more specifics at the following link:

On the personal front, I love travelling and I have been to a number of countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. I have travelled to the US on work as well.
I love baking or cooking in general. I have certified as an Open Water Diver and am contemplating doing an advanced course by the end of the year. I am also planning to get a navigator's license to sail 30 footers in 2014.

My target schools are : INSEAD, IMD, ISB, IE Business School

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. The program you participated in sounds great, in that it exposed you to so many different areas, and that is important for any manager. I think your profile is solid and you would have a shot at the schools you mentioned if you put together strong essays/application... the only potential concern raised could be-- do you NEED the MBA after all of that experience?? ;) So I'd be sure to emphasize that in your essays, and your goals should be pretty compelling and realistic but also require the MBA for those next steps, if that makes sense. Good luck to you!

Hey Jennifer,

Thanks for the revert. My only concerns are that I have a 65% for my undergrad and also for a school like INSEAD, the earliest I can get in with a decent application for R1 would be for the JAn 2015 intake, by which point I would already have 10 years work experience and I'd be 32. This is slightly out of the target profile that INSEAD aims to take in.

WHat do you think? In any case, I have a 30 min consult with Adam Grossman today :D

Hi there,

How did your consult go? Hope you found it helpful! The undergrad sounds borderline but likely acceptable, and as for the 10 years, yes you're at a higher # years of work experience than is typical, so you need to really show that this degree makes sense for you, that you know how and why it will help you, that you have a clear plan for post-MBA. If you can make a compelling case for that and show what you'll bring to the class, you would still have a chance. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hey Jennifer,

Yes, the consult was good. It definitely brought out more questions than answers. But I guess that is the part of the process.
