by rockyb » Wed Jun 01, 2011 10:40 pm
Hello everyone, my name is Naveen and I am a student in the Babson MBA program. Babson has been consistently ranked #1 in Entrepreneurship and attracts a diversity of business talent.

I am happy to take questions about the MBA program and help candidates on BTG.

Hi Rocky ,

Congrats for being an student of Babson

My GMAT score is 680 , an average score.

My profile is 3 yr work experience in IT . My undergraduate degree is B.E.
From the college itself I had a Zeal of entrepreneurship inside me. We started a website which provides discounted deals in the city. We took it to several B-plan competitions but never got seeding money. We feeded it with our money, but besides doing well in our city ,failing to scale it in other cities we eventually quit and joined Infosys. Now the same idea is booming in india with dozen companies with big hands supporting them . Websites like snapdeal.com , fashionnyou.com are very popular and this bugs me now.
I believe Babson is a college suited to my needs.
As again I am into a moonlight business idea, but same problem of incubation is fearing.

I am falling in love with Babson. Please help me on following queries:

1. Is my GMAT score and profile suitable to compete for admissions in Babson.
2. I want a fellowship definitely , so please guide me on this.
3. Please introduce me to any good consultant to increase my chances of getting admission.
4. Do TOEFL score is mandatory or can be waived off ?
5. Any other suggestion from your experience.

Thanks in advance.

all right Rocky Balboa , I've probably read many of ur posts/blogs, really liked the one in which u were identified as the blogger by a current babson student. All right here I am :

710
2 years IT consultancy
2 yrs start up for family business
decent skills and already scored most interviews in R1- no admits yet :/

Babson is my primary R2 target(15th Jan). My primary goal is to major in SCM and minor in Entrepreneurship. Babson being an entrepreneurship school is in my list. How is the scm-operations program there? What are the career prospects ?

Where do the entrepreneurship majors work graduation ? Do all get involved in incubation/start ups/return to family business ? What other employment opportunities post graduation for entrepreneur students ?
Cheers !!

Babson's a general management program foremost. At the end of the day, entrepreneurs are general managers and Babson teaches you how to identify a business opportunity, value the opportunity and execute on the opportunity. We don't have an operations or scm program per se, although we have a core course in operations management which you can supplement with more electives in the space. Not a lot of folks go into scm from Babson, so I don't really have a number for your question on prospects.

Not everyone who comes to Babson gets an Entrepreneurship major. A lot of people do come in from family businesses and go back to them, some start companies, and others find jobs in the industry in a wide range of functions and industries. Its the same model as most other schools. If you can be more specific about what you are looking for, I might be able to answer better.

Hi Aayushi,

I don't do profile evaluations because they are only personal opinions and won't influence admission decisions in any way. Instead of asking for a profile evaluation, I would recommend that you find out why Babson may be a good program for you and apply accordingly. If you have any questions towards that, I am happy to take them. I will be travelling this month and may be delayed with my responses.

Hello all,

I have been accepted to BU's Questrom School of Business and Babson for evening MBA programs. The company for which I work has offered to pay my way which is why I am not going full time. I am having a hard time deciding between the two schools. Does anyone here have an opinion as to which school I should choose? I am also considering applying to Boston College but I'm not sure if I should. Please help!

Thank you all.
