The OA is E.
I chose B over the OA.
The reason for the answer to be wrong is that B uses passive voice.
I have two questions about the reason:
1. The remaining sentence following the underlined portion says "...crossbreeding is said to provide...", which I think, is not parallel with the OA. Isn't "is said" passive? It would have been parallel if the construction were "...crossbreeding provides...". Still there is something missing.
2. How would cattle breeders acquire hybrid characteristics in their cattle? It is the cattle that has to acquire, right?
Please explain!

Hi tanvis1120,
This SC provides information about 2 reasons why cattle breeders use crossbreeding, so the correct answer must put those 2 reasons in Parallel format.
The second reason (which is not underlined) gives us the "format" that the first reason must match. The phrase "partly...to provide...." is the format that we need to match. The only answer that's written in this format is the correct one: E

Hi john83.amar,
Answer B is not written in "parallel format"; the word "partly" in the second part of the sentence must be matched by what's in the first part of the sentence. Answer B uses "in part", which is not parallel.
