Evaluation: 740 and unique background for S16

by yiz » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:24 am
Thank you in advance for evaluating my profile.
BA in English Literature from an elite liberal art university in China.

3.41 GPA, GMAT 740 (Q49 V41 IR7 AWA 3.5 the awa is low, made an error in exam)

Some highlights of my 3 years of working experience (4 years at matriculation)

The media are in turmoil. I kind of helped China's most important news organization to better cope with the industrial transformation.

1. Youngest recipient of China's highest-level annual journalism award because, in the first month of my job, I designed a system for my team to monitor breaking events on social media

2. Help founding our agency's social media operation

3. Help improve the financial coverage of our office

Hello there!
Well you certainly have a very interesting and unique profile, and I think that coupled with a great GMAT and very good grades should make one of the S16 possible (although you still may want to have one or two schools outside the S16 on your list, as safe schools).

Basically, I think that with your news involvement, you really have the potential to write a fascinating application.

Since you are not from a business background however, it will be very important that you show WHY you want to go to Bschool, how it makes sense, and how these fit into your goals. Basically your career story is gonna be one of the most important factors in your application.

Next: I wouldn't worry about the AWA tooo much. Just write beautiful essays.

As for the LGBT, I don't know that it will increase your chances, but if it's important to you, and you have something interesting to write about it (of course relevant to the application and the questions asked) it can give a new facet of your being, which you may want to present.

Best,
JF
