This year or next year?

by oksure » Fri May 30, 2014 8:47 am
Hello, as the title suggests I'm trying to decide whether to apply this year or next. Here is my background:
Age: 28 this year
GMAT: 690 (45/40), planning to retake
School: GPA 3.83, Psychology
Work: Tier 2 Consulting - good experience and ratings
Extra-Currics: Club leadership during undergrad, various other leadership roles
Post MBA Goals: Corp strategy or leadership rotation program for F100 company

After some thought, I've broken it down into two likely options:

1. Apply this year
2. Switch to corp strategy job now, apply next year

Thank you in advance for the feedback and consideration.

Hey dude,
I'd be happy to help out, but first...
A few questions for you:
1. Do you already have an offer for a Corp strategy job? If so, where and what?
2. If you were to apply in a year would you plan on retaking the GMAT? do you think you would score higher?

Let me know, and I'll get right back to you.

Best,
Jon

Thank you very much for replying.

1. No job offer, and haven't applied anywhere. Just an idea at this point. I've looked around just to see whats out there and I've seen positions at Microsoft, Amazon, and Disney for which I think I could be competitive.
2. If I were to apply in a year I would definitely retake. Though, I'm planning to retake regardless in the next month or so, so it would be on this year's app. Yes, I'm almost positive I can boost it 10-30 points.

Well, if you aren't SURE you can get much higher, might as well go for it this year. No sense in delaying if you are ready. The GMAT is a weeeee bit lower than we'd like for top schools, but everything else seems good! So with awesome essays...

And now that some questions have been released you can even get started.
