general problem in assumption question

I have general problems in those assumption questions where I always fel that the correct answer should be the negative of the OA

I'm posting two questions with OA clearly mentioned

Tsumi bats are a rare breed of omnivorous bat found only in highly temperate climates. Most Tsumi bats living in captivity develop endocrine imbalances from their normal zoo diets, which consist mostly of fruits and berries. The healthiest way to feed the bats, therefore , is to provide them primarily with nuts, grubs and vegetables and only minimum amount of fruits and berries.

Which of the following is not an assumption

1) Tsumi bats living in captivity will not be malnourished on diets that contain minimum fruits and berries


I think the OA should be not(option1) i.e
Tsumi bats living in captivity will (not NOT) be malnourished on diets that contain minimum fruits and berries

2)

Hi Dextar,

To tackle CR qeuestions, I have found PR strategies best

Here is the strategy I use to attack the assumption question
1. Read the question
2. Read the argument
3. Rephrase in your own words
4. remove out of scope choices and it usually leaves you with 2-3 choices
5. remove the choices that weaken the conclusion - remember correct answer choice will always strengthen the conlusion. It usually leaves you with 1-2 option
6. If you are left with two options. Eliminate the option that repeats the information from argument. This leaves you with the answer

I hope it helps!

Another thing, the key to sucess on GMAT verbal is your reading speed. So I would highly recommend that you start reading Wall street journal for 15-30 min everyday. I started reading WSJ about one month ago and I have seen huge improvement in reading speed and comprehension ability.

However I can't subscribe to Wall Street as I'm from INdia :D

But I got ur point.

However, it would be gr8 if somone can have a look at the questions I posted above and try to give me the solution. (I mean y negative assumption).

u got my point when I say negative assumption?

Assumption whose negative always seem to be the answer(at least for me) for those two questions posted above.

So here is the full question.

Assunptions

OK, this may sound off but CR is becoming a great hobby of mine. I do enjoy them and am constantly looking for ways to improve. My mind is wired in this way.

Assumption questions only seem confusing but they can be cracked open easily.

1. read, identify and seperate evidence from conclusion
2. personalize the arguement for about 10 seconds.
3. Ponder the relationship between evicence that leads to conclusion and try to focus on weaknesses in the arguement. i.e. I am cunning so I can run for president. (well there are many assumptions I am making here for my conclusion to hold true)
4. correct choice will strengthen the conclusion
5. sift out the scope answer choices and usually you will have to tempting choices.
6. negate the choices you are pondering and see which one hurts the conclusion and home in on it because it is your answer.

I think answer should be 1.

Instead of thinking which one is NOT an assumption in the passage, lets see which all are assumptions relvant to passage..
1. Nowhere mentioned in passage no caring about bats and endocrine balances....it somehow doesnt looks relvant to me, so this can not be an assumption made in the passage

Passage says healthiest way for bats is to feed on nuts,grubs and berries.
2. Assumption as healthiest way is as mentioned above, it implies that minimum amount of fruits and berries is helathy and its assumed they will not be malnurished.
3. Again its assumed that in captivity bats will eat diets of nuts.grubs (we dont knwo whether in captivity they do not eat it by choice)
4. Similar to 2 , but is again assumed that minimal fruits annd berries is healthy for bats
5. similar to 4 , it says that giving less fruits and berries wont effect the bats in any other way.

Hope it makes sense dextar
