If both X and Y are nonzero numbers what is the value of x/y?

2) y^2=y^2

first of all I think you mean x^2 = y^2 (1). Now since we have squares
we have 2 cases for example (-3)^2 = (3)^2 and equation (1) holds
for y=+,- x and not just for positive x only, so ratio could be either 1 or -1
