Hello,
Please let me know, If I'd be competitive for full time MBA admission at Stanford, LSB, INSEAD, ISB. I am looking for a school that has a good Finance and entrepreneurship programs.
First Preferrence Schools: Stanford, LSB, INSEAD, Columbia
Second Preference Schools: ISB, UCLA, NYU, Carnegie Mellon
I very much appreciate your feedback.
Age: 29 (Will be 30 later this year)
Citizenship: India
GMAT: 760
MS GPA: 3.6
BS and MS Major: Engineering
BS and MS School: Not a top 30 ranking school.
MBA Applying Major: Finance
Volunteer/Community Experience in US: 14 months
Professional Experience: 7 years full time experience as consultant. Worked for a top 5 consulting firm for 4 years. Led teams.
Entrepreneur/Managing Experience: 1. Co-Founded a renewable energy company and sold it.
Reason for MBA: I do not have a finance background nor indepth knowledge on Management and Entrepreneurship. I feel that the skills gained through MBA will make me a better manager and a skilled Entrepreneur.

Dear MBA_2009:
I think you will be a competitive applicant at all of these programs based on the profile you posted. As I stated in some earlier posts today, the critical component to your application is distinguishing yourself in the eyes of the admissions committees. The applicant pools for top MBA programs are extremely large and some profiles are more common than others. Figure out what makes you unique, what value you will add to the program, communicate those things effectively, and apply early!

Though I have a general idea on what school I want to got to, I need some help in finalizing schools. What are some resources available that can help me in that aspect? (other than school websites)
I see that your consulting group is based of LA. I live in LA too. How can your consulting group help me in selecting the schools. |

There are many websites out there. We have a great sticky on how to evaluate schools on this website. Other than school websites, you can check mba.com, princetonreview.com, and any rankings publications for more detail on programs.
