i took the gmat this morning and screwed up big time on the verbal.

score 670 : Q-50, V-30.

Something about my test experience which might be of some help to you guys.

I was doing pretty well in quant till the last few questions when I panicked a bit. I was running out of time for the first time in the last 3 weeks (5 min - 4q). I took a guess on the fourth last question (something on inequality) so that I'll have sufficient time for the last three. When I came out of the break, I realized I made a mistake on the last two questions (the questions were sort of imprinted in my mind). I felt I have messed up the quant section. I started the verbal well but I could not get the thought of getting the last few question wrong out of my mind. A lot of people have stressed the importance of not predicting your score during the test, but I could not do so on the real one. The end result was a really disappointing verbal performance.

my test scores:

MGMAT - 620, 720, 740, 770, 690, 730, 780
GMAT Prep - 700, 740

Still debating if/when I should retake the exam.

your practice test scores look pretty decent .. GMAT scores look like an anomaly as compared to them... do you know what went wrong in verbal ? were you confident about your answers while taking the test ?

you def. need 1 week break.

I was pretty confident on the first few questions, but did guess after the 10-12th question especially on SCs. I somehow kept thinking I've messed up the quant and lost focus. I guess that's where I made most of my mistakes.
I definitely need to look at CRs and SCs again. The biggest problem is that I've exhausted the OG and VR. I almost know the answers by heart and donot seem to be gaining new concepts from them. Probably need to look at new questions to gain insight into where I am going wrong.

Hey beingAndNothing, don't worry man! 670 is not at all a bad score. It's pretty good. If I were at your position, I would like to take a chance applying to the colleges. Yop! Its ur bad luck that u were not able to achieve what u were looking for. Sorry for that ...

relax, be confident, know that you have owned this test a half dozen times before, and you'll be in the 700's.

Hey bAndN,

Just looking at your test scores.. and abt ur test day...
I feel YOU are not definitely made for 670.

ALL THE FOCUS, PREPARATION AND HARDSHIP WE TAKE for months... IS STILL LESS THAN OUR FOCUS AND WHAT WE DO on the TEST DAY.

SO PLAN SOME TIME, say short like 3 weeks, and RETAKE. THIS TIME - ONLY FOCUS - on DOING UR BEST TO GET IT RIGHT - and leave it for the dumb computer to figure out if its hard or easy or right or wrong.

God be with You!
