No...not the hallucinagen. I got this question on a GMATprep and must be missing something.
"In the fraction X/Y where X,Y are positive integers, what is the value of Y?"
1. The least common denominator of X/Y and 1/3 is 6
2. X=1
Answer was E. But I thought it should be A (doesn't Y have to be 2???).
TIA... |

| I think given Statement (1) that Y could also be 6....i.e. the LCD of 1/6 and 1/3 would also be 6 |

Statement I
LCM of x/y and 1/3 is 6
y could be 6
y could be 2
Insufficient.
Statement II
x=1, y could be anything
Insufficient.
Combining I & II
x=1
still y could be 2 or 6 or anything else.
Insufficient.
Hence E is the answer.
Hope this helps. |
