DS set 10, Q 11

by emrahinci » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:35 am
11. Is x between 0 and 1?
(1) x 2 is less than x.
(2) x3 is positive

Answer is A but what if X is -1/2?
Then X square is 1/4 and greater than x. I think the right answer is C.

Read the statement carefully, it says, x^2 is less than x, this is only possible when x is between 0 and 1 ...

if x is between -1 and 0, then x^2 > x, and hence negates the given condition, so we can safely say using statement 1 that x is between 0 and 1 ..
