At a certain diner, a hamburger and coleslaw cost $3.59, and a hamburger and french fries cost $4.40. If french fries cost twice as much as coleslaw, how much do french fries cost?
(A) $0.30
(B) $0.45
(C) $0.60
(D) $0.75
(E) $0.90

Given:
H+C=3.59 ....(1)
H+F=4.40 .....(2)
F=2C ..... (3)
C=1/2F

F=?

Solving for F:
2-1 => F-C = 4.40-3.59
F-1/2F = (4.40-3.59)
F = 2(4.40-3.59)
=1.62
=None of the Answer choice. Must be something wrong in Question data.

Hey there,

There must be a typo, since i had the same problem. This "a hamburger and french fries cost $4.40" should be $4.04, then everything works.
