x and y should either be integers or complimentary decimals (the fractional part of x plus the fractional part of y = 1).
Statement one can be satisfied by either integers (i.e. x=3, y=2) or integers plus halfs (i.e. x=3.5, y=2.5)
Statement 2 can only be satisfied by integers.
