Hello Stacy,

I am a recent member to this forum and would like to express gratitude for the well-needed advice youo ffer to members.

I am an international student and would like to know if i have a chance at being admitted into an MBA program for GA state orGA tech for fall 2007.

profile

gpa 3.0

minimal work experience:9 months work experience as a financial processor.do you think that I should include summer jobs for example cashir post on my MBA resume?

bachelors completed 2004

extracurricular : dance

GMAT: low, but will reatke by the end of september

Also, could you please suggest areas in which I need to improve inorder to have greater chances.

Sounds like you could improve in a number of areas:
- How did you do in your quant classes? If the grades were low, you may want to take a side class.
- Improve your GMAT - per your post
- Not sure of the extent of your involvement with dance. You may want to deepen your involvement.
- More work experience would surely help - the cashier experience will not do much for your app.
- Leadership experiences
- Focused goals

Thank you for your response. I will definately do my best to improve in the areas that you highlighted.

Do you think that it would be wise for me to defer my application for fall 2007 inorder to work on getting some added work experience and getting more involved in extracurricular activities? Also , do you think that being a financial transactions processor is recognised as good work experience?

I do believe you would benefit from delaying your application. What exactly do you do as financial processor? Whether it will be valued by the adcomm depends on your performance, responsibilities, progression and accomplishments

hello Stacy,

As a Financial Transactions Processor, I am responsible for processing contribution refund claims. the contributions were made to a trust . Iam responsible for meeting a daily quota, and ensuring that the amounts calculated are correct as overstatement of figures could lead to expulsion from the job. i was also responsible for handlingcustomer queries.
i have decided to redo the GMAT and also work for an additional year.I am trying to secure a more recognised job, such as a position in the accounting field so i am constantly sending out resumes.
what I have noticed Stacy , is that most US schools stress internships, or other means of experience and actually give students the opportunity to get this. The problem is that the schools in my home country , though companies will come in and recruit a few students after graduation, you are basically on your own otherwise as it pertains to work experience.
thank you for your extremely helpful suggestions! i had been all alone in trying to get acceptance into school in a somewhat unfamiliar environment , which is discouraging at times but i believe that if I follow your suggestions I will have a chane.

Your job will be more valued by target schools if you can demonstrate progression (getting promoted, increased responsibilities), initiative, leadership, collaborating with others.

If it is solitary job where you are doing this routine work alone, I do not think it will be as strong for the MBA.
