11th edition OG quantitative page 157 question # 113
If the fraction x/y, where x and y are positive integers, whats the value of y?
1. least common denominator of x/y and 1/3 is 6?
2. x=1
correct answer is E, but how do i get the lcd of x/y and 1/3 as 6? |

I'm not sure that this explanation is correct. Here is my explanation (but I'm no expert ):
The LCD is 6, which means 6 is a multiple of y AND 3. Y could either be 2 or 6. Since there are two possible values for y, statement I is not sufficient to uniquely determine y. |
