Gmat Prep Geometry

by maolivie » Fri Jul 13, 2007 2:51 pm
I'm not sure how to attach an image when you can't copy it in gmat prep, but I'll do my best to explain this.

There is a picture of an equilateral triangle, all sides labeled T, and a picture of a square, all sides labeled s.
The question asks: If the two regions above have the same area, what is the ration of t:s?

1- 2:3
2- 16:3
3 - 2 : sq. rt. 3
4- 2: 4th rt. 3
5- 4: 4th rt. 3

Area of equilateral triangle with side T = sqrt(3)*(T^2)/4

Area of square with side S = S^2

If both have equal area

sqrt(3)*T^2 / 4 = S^2

(T/S)^2 = 4/sqrt(3)
So, T/S = 2 / 3^(1/4)
