GMAT discrimination against women

by tuanquang269 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:06 pm
Some people have questioned the judge's objectivity in cases of GMAT discrimination against women. But the record shows that in sixty percent of such cases, the judge has decided in favor of the women. This record demonstrates that the judge has not discriminated against women in cases of GMAT discrimination against women.
The argument above is flawed in that it ignores the possibility that

(A) a large number of the judge's cases arose out of allegations of GMAT discrimination against women
(B) many judges find it difficult to be objective in cases of GMAT discrimination against women
(C) the judge is biased against women defendants or plaintiffs in cases that do not involve GMAT discrimination
(D) the majority of the cases of GMAT discrimination against women that have reached the judge's court have been appealed from a lower court
(E) the evidence shows that the women should have won in more than sixty percent of the judge's cases involving GMAT discrimination against women

Please explain the question with your answers.
Thanks in advance!!

It's definitely E. Do you have specific questions about the OA? E, if true, would tend to raise questions of impropriety on the part of this judge in GMAT discrimination cases. (Other judges and other cases are not relevant) None of the other answer choices do the same.

Initially, I did not understand the question term (now I did). So, I use POE but unsuccessful. Can you help me to reason the remain answers choice why they are wrong. Thank in advance.

The argument above is flawed in that it ignores the possibility that

we are more concerned about..in how many of these discrimination cases judge showed bias but not about how many cases of discrimination cases came to him.

(B) many judges find it difficult to be objective in cases of GMAT discrimination against women

This gives a vague statement about many judges in general, but doesn't provide a flaw to break the stem.

(C) the judge is biased against women defendants or plaintiffs in cases that do not involve GMAT discrimination

in cases that do not invoolve GMAT discrimination is out of scope.

(D) the majority of the cases of GMAT discrimination against women that have reached the judge's court have been appealed from a lower court

so what, we are more concerned with how this judge handled discrimination cases against women whether with bias or not? hence not a flaw.

(E) the evidence shows that the women should have won in more than sixty percent of the judge's cases involving GMAT discrimination against women

correct:in more than sixty percent cases women should have won if judge has given an unbiased judgement. this shows judge is showing discrmination against women. hence the conclusion that judge didn't showed discrimination against women is flawed.

Please explain the question with your answers.
